Tata Motors has unveiled a teaser for the Altroz Racer, an enhanced, sportier edition of its premium hatchback, which is scheduled for release next month. This new variant promises a more powerful engine, distinct exterior styling, and additional features compared to the standard Altroz.
Distinctive Dual-Tone Design with Racing Stripes:
The Tata Altroz Racer will showcase a unique orange and black dual-tone exterior, extending the black trim beyond the roof, wing mirrors, and window line to include the pillars. Although the 16-inch alloy wheels remain unchanged from the standard model, the Racer will feature distinctive white racing stripes on the bonnet, as previously revealed in spy shots and displayed at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. Additional visual enhancements include ‘Racer’ badges and a slightly refreshed grille.

Upgraded Engine and Enhanced Comfort Features:
Unlike the standard Altroz iTurbo, which utilizes a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, the Racer will be powered by the Nexon’s 120hp, 1.2-litre unit. This upgrade boosts the Racer’s output by 10hp and 30Nm, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Hyundai i20 N Line’s 120hp, 172Nm, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The Altroz Racer is expected to be available exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Sporty Interior with Premium Additions:
Inside, the Altroz Racer is likely to mirror its sporty exterior with cosmetic updates such as highlighted dashboard elements and new upholstery. Tata Motors is anticipated to introduce several new features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats (a segment-first), a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display, and a voice-assisted sunroof.

Positioned Against Strong Competitors:
The Altroz Racer is expected to be priced higher than the iTurbo, which ranges between Rs 9.20 lakh and Rs 10.10 lakh. This pricing strategy will place it in competition with the Hyundai i20 N Line, priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 11.42 lakh for manual variants and Rs 11.15 lakh to Rs 12.52 lakh for automatic trims. Other competitors include the Maruti Fronx, ranging from Rs 9.73 lakh to Rs 12.86 lakh, and the Toyota Taisor, priced between Rs 10.56 lakh and Rs 12.88 lakh, both equipped with 100hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines.
