Prototypes of several 911 hybrid versions have been tested over the past few years, and Porsche has now declared that development is complete. Porsche emphasises that the hybrid system has been developed with performance in mind, even though exact details about it have not been made public.
Tuning on the Nurburgring Nordschleife was one of the evaluations that were part of the testing process for the new hybrid model. Jorg Bergmeister, a Porsche brand ambassador, set a lap time of 7 minutes and 16.934 seconds during performance testing, which is 8.7 seconds quicker than the previous model. Standard road tyres and an aero package with a fixed rear wing—which improves stability at high speeds—were fitted to the test car.
It is anticipated that the next Porsche 911 Hybrid will include a freshly designed petrol-hybrid drivetrain. The turbocharged six-cylinder engine of the 911 will probably be paired with an electric motor installed in the front axle to power all four wheels. In order to provide an electric boost and power auxiliary components, Porsche is also anticipated to incorporate a 48-volt starter motor into the dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
