On December 14, 2023, Kia will unveil the Sonet facelift in India. On the same day, reservations for the SUV are probably going to open, with a January 2024 launch date. Along with improvements to the cabin and features list, the subcompact SUV is expected to receive a significant design update to revitalise its appeal. A large portion of the exterior design updates for the SUV were revealed in an October leak that was intended for global distribution.
Design
The SUV also got a new front bumper, a revised grille, and new headlamps with vertical extensions along the outer edge. The body lines and profile along the sides remained the same, while the new tail lamps around the back bore a resemblance to those found on the larger Seltos. The alloy wheels and rear bumper were also updated. Although the India-spec SUV may receive similar updates as part of its mid-lifecycle update, this was the model intended for international markets.
Regarding the interior, the modifications are probably going to be limited to a few control surface adjustments as well as adjustments to the upholstery and trim. Along with updating the Sonet's feature list, Kia may also decide to add additional features, such as ADAS for the highest-spec models.
Specifications
Engine
It is anticipated that the Sonet facelift will retain the same lineup of engines as the model it replaces. This covers the 1.5-liter diesel, 1.0-liter T-GDI turbo-petrol, and 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engines. The standard gearbox for the naturally aspirated petrol will be a manual one.
Gearbox
The 6-speed iMT gearbox and automatic gearbox options are anticipated to remain available for the 1.5-liter diesel and 1.0-liter turbo-petrol mills. Kia may expand the range to include a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Features
In addition to the new instrument cluster, we anticipate that Kia will add a 360-degree camera system to the new Sonet.Wireless phone charging, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, and cruise control are already included in the sub-4m SUV's feature set; these are probably all carried over from the current model.
Safety
Regarding safety, the Kia Sonet facelift will include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), front and rear parking sensors, TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) and six airbags, just like its sibling, the Hyundai Venue.
Price
We can anticipate a minor price increase for the current model, which is priced at Rs 7.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), due to the new feature additions.
