At the Auto China Show in 2024, Mercedes-Benz will make its much-awaited all-electric G-Class debut on April 24. The all-electric SUV, which is based on the legendary G-Class, will seem boxy and upright like its internal combustion cousin even with its updated ladder frame chassis, which helps make space for the all-electric drivetrain.
Highlights
- Production EQG with EQ Technology will be referred to as the G 580.
- Could provide a range of more than 300 kilometres.
- Utilising a quad-motor drivetrain for propulsion.
Mercedes-Benz will present the Concept CLA Class and the new AMG GT 63 S E Performance at the Auto China Show 2024, in addition to the all-electric G-class. The EQG concept was recently unveiled by Mercedes-Benz India in India, where the model is planned to go on sale in the near future.
Battery
The all-electric G-Class, dubbed the G 580, is expected to be available with a battery pack that has a capacity of about 100 kWh and a range of more than 300 km on a single charge.
Features
The production G-class is expected to retain the four-motor electric drivetrain, one for each wheel, featured on the EQG concept in 2021, along with the capacity to perform 360-degree tank turns. Mercedes-Benz has been showcasing a function called G-Turn lately, which enables the SUV to turn instantly by twisting the wheels on either side in opposite directions.
We anticipate the electric G-Class to be almost as capable off-road as its internal combustion sibling, but more precise information on the drivetrain and off-road statistics, like the approach and breakover angles, is still being withheld for the time being.
