Mahindra Thar Earth Edition, What's New?

Mahindra has recently revealed the Thar Earth Edition, priced between Rs 15.4 lakh to 17.6 lakh (ex-showroom), marking a slight increase of Rs 40,000 compared to the LX trim it's based on. This special edition, exclusively available for 4x4 models, maintains its mechanical specifications while introducing some notable aesthetic enhancements.

Unique Visual Appeal:
The Thar Earth Edition catches the eye with its exclusive 'Desert Fury' matte paint finish, accompanied by distinctive 'Earth Edition' badges on the B-pillars and rear fenders. Inside, the dual-tone beige and black leatherette upholstery complements the desert-inspired theme, featuring line art resembling sand dunes on the headrests. Dark chrome accents on elements like the steering wheel logo, cupholders, gear knob, and gear console enhance the overall aesthetic.

Personalized Detailing:
Every Thar Earth Edition comes with a unique vehicle identification plate sequentially numbered, starting from '1', providing a personalized touch to the ownership experience. However, Mahindra has not specified if this edition will be produced in limited quantities.

Consistent Performance:
In terms of performance, the Thar Earth Edition retains the same powertrain options as the standard 4x4 variants. Customers can select between a 2.0-liter petrol engine producing 152hp and 300Nm torque, mated to either a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission, or a 2.2-liter diesel engine generating 132hp and 300Nm torque, also available with both transmission choices.

Market Dynamics:
The introduction of the Thar Earth Edition by Mahindra coincides with changing market demands. With approximately 71,000 open bookings for the Thar as of February 14, 2024, the release of the RWD model has affected the demand for 4WD variants. Consequently, the waiting period for 4WD models ranges from 4 to 5 months, while diesel RWD models face a wait of almost a year. The launch of the Earth Edition could strategically boost sales of the Thar 4WD models.
