Is BMW Accepting Bookings for the All-Electric i5 Sedan in India?

BMW India has commenced bookings for the all-electric i5 sedan, offering customers the option to book online or at authorized dealerships. The i5 will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and will be available in limited numbers in the Indian market.

Variant and Features:
The i5 will be offered in the top-end M60 xDrive variant, showcasing BMW's high-performance electric capabilities. It features a smaller wheelbase compared to the next-generation ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) 5 Series but promises impressive performance and range.

Powertrain and Performance:
The BMW i5 M60 xDrive is equipped with electric motors on both axles, delivering a combined output of 601hp and 820Nm of torque. This enables the sedan to accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 230kph. The i5 features BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system for enhanced traction and control.

Battery Capacity and Range:
With an 81.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the i5 M60 xDrive offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 516km on a single charge. It comes with an 11kW AC charger as standard, which can be upgraded to 22kW with an optional onboard charger. The sedan also supports 205kW DC fast charging, providing a 10-80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.

Expected Pricing and Deliveries:
BMW has not disclosed the pricing for the i5 M60 xDrive yet, but it is anticipated to be priced significantly higher than its ICE counterpart, possibly crossing the Rs 1 crore mark. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in May 2024 on a first-come-first-served basis.
