Based on clock speed, the chipmaker declared the 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900KS to be the fastest desktop CPU in the world in an announcement. According to the manufacturer, the processor's proprietary Thermal Velocity Boost technology allows it to deliver a maximum turbo frequency of up to 6.2 GHz.
It went on sale on March 14 for a starting price of Rs. 58,000. It is offered by Intel's authorized channels and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners and can be purchased globally as a boxed CPU or integrated into systems.
The Intel Core i9-14900KS has 24 cores total—eight performance cores, or P cores, sixteen efficient cores, or E cores, and 32 threads. It can also handle 20 PCIe lanes, 16 of which are PCIe 5.0 lanes and the other 4 PCIe 4.0 lanes. It can handle a 150-watt processor base power. Additionally, it has 36MB of Intel Smart Cache.
With compatible programme titles, the Intel Application Optimisation Overview (APO) offered by the Intel Core i9-14900KS can enhance performance by up to 11 percent. Up to 192GB of DDR5 5600 megatransfers per second (MTps) or DDR4 3200 MTps of memory can be supported by the CPU. Additionally, Z790 and Z690 motherboards are compatible with it.
Furthermore, according to Intel, the chip provides notable enhancements for gamers and content creators. According to the business, the new processor offers a 15 percent increase in gaming performance over the previous generation, while it can offer up to a 73 percent improvement in compute-intensive applications like multitasking and 3D production.
